Luxor is ancient Thebes, and it’s an open-air museum. The east bank has the temples of Karnak and Luxor. The west bank has the Valley of the Kings, where the tomb walls are still painted in colours that look fresh after 3,000 years, and Medinet Habu, the temple of Ramesses III.
Inside one tomb, Tutankhamun himself still lies in a glass case. Standing next to him is hard to describe.
